Indoor farming is a concept in which food can be produced all year round, independent of ecological conditions. Sustainability is at the core of indoor farming. Every year, the Dutch AGF (potato, vegetable and fruit industry) exports millions of tonnes of food to foreign markets. At the same time, the Netherlands imports millions of tonnes of food for its own market and transshipment abroad. All of these transport movements are highly unsustainable. The concept of indoor farming encourages businesses to supply their local markets with food all year round.
If a company wants to be able to produce year-round, everything must be streamlined. That means good hygiene throughout your business, both in the water and in the air, is necessary. The natural gas ozone (O₃) offers both: it is a highly effective means of purifying water and treating air.
When Agrozone started testing with ozone (O₃) a few years ago, people were skeptical. How would ozone contribute to the quality and reduction of crop failure at your farm? We now know that ozone is the way to purify water and air so that you can get a better grip on different cultivation systems. We all know that a healthier and more vital crop gives more peace and security within your company.
Water and/or air purification of indoor farm is done as follows:
What distinguishes ozone from other purification techniques is that ozone enriches the feed water with oxygen molecules. Although testing is still in progress, initial results from Agrozone and WUR (Wageningen University & Research) are promising. In a test greenhouse, they saw that crop yields increased with the use of ozone. It may take several more years before we can say with certainty that ozone increases crop yields, but the interim report is promising.
