Complete treatment for treatment river water for tomato crop in Czech Republic

Agrozone, in cooperation with a dealer and sister company Verhoeve, has been commissioned to design and implement a complete water treatment plant for tomato nursery Jižní Morava in the Czech Republic. The purpose of this installation is to filter and clean river water so that it is safe and suitable for use in cultivation. Here, the quality of the river water as well as the accumulated organic contaminants in the supply line gave a need to address the water flow and ultimately improve cultivation!

The nursery has a cultivation area of 15 hectares, equivalent to about 21 soccer fields. Daily water consumption is up to 1,500 m³, of which up to one-third will come from river water.

Filtration and purification process

The plant is composed of multiple filtration steps to effectively clean the river water:

  • Sieve bend
  • Cloth filter plant
  • Sand filter plant

After this pre-filtration, the water is disinfected using ozone. An ozone plant of the Aquazone type was chosen for this purpose, which can treat a continuous water flow of 50 m³/hour.

Benefits of ozone treatment

The use of ozone was chosen because of its high effectiveness in eliminating bacteria, fungi and viruses. In addition, ozone oxidizes unwanted compounds, such as nitrite and other harmful substances, thus removing them from the water.
